Alteryx Online Training Modules Descriptions

Beginner Modules

In this one session you’ll learn how to automate your data processes with the power of Alteryx. This virtual course will provide you with the necessary tools to get started building your own analytic processes with the Alteryx Designer.

You know how to write SQL, and have sound understanding of working with data, but how can you translate this knowledge to Alteryx? The intention of this session is to use SQL terminology and keywords to understand tools and processes in Alteryx.

Coming to Alteryx from other tools and unfamiliar with the idea of a visual workflow? This session shows how visual workflows cut out the repetitive steps you've done over and over in other tools. Pulling out cheat sheets for those things you do once a week or month? In Alteryx you'll build it once and quickly run it whenever needed.

Are people always coming to you for data requests? Have you built workflows that would be for others need to run? Learn how to publish you workflows to the gallery so others can be self-sufficient with their requests and users can run Alteryx apps from a simple web interface.

Depending on the source data can come into Alteryx in different formats. Numbers can be integers, bytes, doubles. Dates can be strings. This session covers how data comes into Alteryx, how to easily change the data types (including automatically!) and best practices for working with data.

Ever have to combine data from very different data sources (text, Oracle, spreadsheet)? Tired of cutting, pasting and doing lookups? This session shows how data from disparate data sources can be easily and automatically combined into a use dataset using the Join Tools.

Need to perform common financial data calculations like Rates of Return and Present and Future Values? This session show common use cases using the financial functions built into the Alteryx Expression Builder.

Business analysts often calculate running totals and weighted averages. Learn the Alteryx tools which streamline each of these into a simple one-tool solution.

Everyone thinks they have the ugliest data. Data can come formatted or unformatted, on one or multiple rows and can odd characters thrown in. Alteryx has many tools in the tool belt to parse data in various degrees of ugliness. Make the unusable usable.

Learn how to automate the process of preparing data in Alteryx for use in Qlik.

Learn how to automate the process of preparing data in Alteryx for use in Tableau.

You've done great work blending and preparing your data - now you want to share your results with others. Learn how to create reports in Alteryx that can be run on demand.

You have address information for your customers, suppliers or other contacts. Learn how to add a where component to your analysis. Find those nearest to you, those within a certain distance or driving time and more.

Even for experienced Alteryx users there are moments where you see someone else do something cool in Alteryx and say "I didn't know you could do that!" This session show a wide variety of features and shortcuts that can save you lots of time and just make life easier.

Do you feel like you are in a rut using the same tools over and over again? Do you feel like there might be an easier way to accomplish your task but don't know what tool might accomplishes your task more quickly? Join us to find out which tools Alteryx thinks are both powerful and underutilized.

Intermediate Modules

You have created some great workflows that others need to run. Learn how to turn your workflow into an analytic app by constructing a graphical user interface (GUI) so users can easily set the required parameters.

Sometimes a workflow needs the results from another workflow before it can run. A reporting app needs to have all the sales receipts processed first. In this session we'll see how easy it is to chain your apps so that when one finishes the next one in the chain is started.

Completed the beginner course? This course will take your blending and parsing skills to the next level, using more advanced tools and practices.

Who likes inefficiency? It's inefficient to bring all the data into your workflow only to filter it out once it's there. With the Dynamic Input Tool you apply filters to the data even before it gets into workflow. Mostly importantly you can change that filter dynamically when the workflow runs.

Want to pull information from a webpage? Alteryx provides the capability to download data from any website to enhance the data in your workflow. In this session we'll go through an example of extracting and parsing the data from a website to use in our workflow.

Working with large database instances? Why waste time moving data to and from the database server? See how to utilize the In-Database tools to blend and analyze the data directly within the database environment to realize significant performance improvements.

In the 10.5 release of Alteryx, the Data Cleansing tool made its first appearance. In this course, you will learn what the tool does and how you can customize it to fit your own personal needs.

Do you find you commonly use the same series of tools in many workflows? Need to encapsulate core business logic or best practices? This session shows you how to turn a repeatable process into a tool which can be inserted into any workflow.

One of the many benefits of Alteryx is the ability to quickly and easily blend and process data without a need for coding. At the same time it allows for coding for those users who want to take things even further. Learn how to insert your own R code into Alteryx and construct a macro to operationalize the tool for use by a broader set of users in your organization.

Need to create lots of reports and distribute them to many recipients? Learn about batch reporting and make your Alteryx reports dynamic so they can be automatically created and distributed.

Creating a visually comprehensive and engaging report onto a single page can be difficult to accomplish. Learn how to take five reporting snippets, and arrange/layer them into a suitable report.

Alteryx is blazingly fast for data blending and analysis. Yet there's always a way to make something even faster. This session will cover best practices for making your workflow execute as quickly as possible.

Advanced Modules

In this session we will review best practices for applying a waterfall process to fuzzy matching to ensure we attain all possible matches across a customer file and an extract from the Experian Household file.

Sometimes using a text-to-columns or complex string functions can be burdensome, time-consuming, and difficult to disseminate. In this training, we will demonstrate how to build Regular Expressions (RegEx) in Alteryx, and the many ways to unlock its powerful and flexible parsing abilities.

Which of your customers are similar to other customers? Which of your stores have similar demographics in the surrounding areas? Learn how to identify clusters of similarity.

Choosing the right model type for your data is a key part of successful predictive modeling. This session reviews the variety of modeling techniques available depending on the data type, as well as the option of running models In Database.

Data that is time based (values collected over a year for example) has an order which needs to be accounted for. There are several methods available to model and forecast time series.

Ever have a question to an answer but think there is a better one? In this training, we will present a business problem and walk through a graphical analysis of the problem. After solving the problem by hand, we can quickly begin to appreciate the time saved with the optimize tool and the exacting answers it delivers that could save a business thousands or even millions!
